Chez Mémé, what a funny name for a….. A what by the way? Coffee ? Tea Room ? Restaurants? Flea market? Grocery store ?
"But that's all that," explains Adeline Fays-Bernardin with a mischievous smile, who is nothing like a grandmother, and who created this place in 2015.
After working for 17 years in the hotel industry, she finally realized her dream, to open a grocery store without letting go of her core business. “My father ran a bistro doubled as a grocery store in the Rhône-Alpes. Spices have always fascinated me; they make you travel, dream of other cultures…”
So a grocery store… Except that when you push open the door of the shop, the eyes of the adults begin to sparkle with greed, seeing this irresistible row of large glass jars filled with sweets from their childhood!
Its sweets, which have become rare, such as roudoudous in real shells, caraboules, caramel mice, liquorice and other sweets, are sold individually.
When you manage to take your eyes off these tempting jars, it's to admire the collections of old spice jars, old advertising signs.
The journey to our childhood continues in the small dining room with its formica furniture, its kitchen clocks from another time. There are so many objects to see, which bring back memories of our grandmothers' kitchens.
The entire boutique bears witness to Adeline's passion: antiquing. With her companion, Olivier Lappelle who runs a welcoming hotel-restaurant in Le Collet, she scours flea markets and flea markets.
“We filled two garages with our finds! When I moved in, we brought everything back to Gérardmer because that's exactly the style of decor I wanted for my shop! »
At Grandma's, happiness is also on the plate, even if she does not pretend to compete with her companion! People stop to have breakfast, eat hot or cold soup and toast, a platter of charcuterie, a snack. “In summer, we offer salads, dishes with seasonal vegetables, gazpachos.
But while it's still cold, dare to order a hot chocolate! But not after a lunch, because a huge hat of whipped cream tops it!
Before leaving, we obviously don't forget to... hunt around in the delicatessen department!
