Hard to resist a little glass of champagne! We have just tasted a blanc de noir from Maison Pannier, the Louis Eugène 2009 vintage produced in tribute to the founder of the house.
Latest edition : 26 April 2020
A beautiful golden robe with fine bubbles, a rich nose: acacia honey, ripe yellow fruits, citrus zest. The palate is ample, fleshy with a long finish of ripe fruit and spicy notes. The blend of pinot noir (95%) and pinot meunier goes very well with bites à la reine, pan-fried scallops, fish in sauce but also white meat and brie with truffles.
Louis-Eugène Pannier founded the Pannier house in 1899 in Dizy near Épernay.
It was his son who bought the magnificent medieval quarries at Château-Thierry in the heart of the vineyards of the Marne valley, which can be admired during a guided tour.
This is where the champagnes mature for at least three years. The Louis Eugène cuvée even rests there for five years. More than 350 winegrowers ensure the supply of chardonnay, pinot meunier and pinot noir from, among others, the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Marne valley.
This beautiful house was taken over more than 40 years ago by some of its winegrowers, committed to a constant quality approach. Under the guidance of Philippe Dupuis, one of the best cellar masters in Champagne, the wines are blended to become champagnes characterized by their fruitiness, their vinosity and their elegance.
