The Rivière du Mât distillery

Founded in 1886, RIVIÈRE DU MÂT is one of the oldest and largest rum distilleries still in operation on Reunion Island. It is the leader in aged rums in Reunion and the leader in arranged rums in mainland France. It is indeed this island in the western Indian Ocean that claims to be the cradle of arranged rum, obtained by a long maceration of plants, spices or fruits.

Concerned about respecting its island, the Distillerie RIVIÈRE DU MÂT is the only distillery in Reunion with a biological treatment process and recovery of distillation residues. It has obtained quadruple Afnor certification for the quality of its rum, the safety of all employees, the reduction of environmental impact and responsible energy consumption.

Reunion Island is a unique biodiversity, breathtaking landscapes, the beach, hiking, a crossroads of civilizations. The production of rum is part of this exceptional heritage. Recognized for its quality linked to its volcanic terroir, Réunion rum benefits from an IGP, a protected geographical indication. To discover the secrets of making great rums, head to Saint-Benoît on the east coast of the island, a short half-hour drive from Saint-Denis or Saint-Pierre. This is where the Rivière du Mât distillery offers guided tours, another way to understand the agricultural history of the island. It is a real rum initiation course through the various workshops and manufacturing stages.
