The Château d’Or et de Gueules is one of the interesting estates in the very south of the Rhône valley, in the heart of the Costières de Nîmes vineyard. It was created in 1998 by Diane de Puymorin whose family coat of arms gave its name to the estate and whose colors reflect the personality of the wines produced there: Gold for the fullness, the richness brought by the sun and the southern warmth, and red (gueules in old French) for character, power and easy drinking. The team around her, with her husband Mathieu Chatain and their daughter Chloé, is resolutely committed to sustainable development. Winegrowers are not content with the labels received (including the strict Demeter in biodynamics) but are multiplying initiatives to enrich and preserve biodiversity: maintaining hedges, planting oaks and olive trees, sheep pastures, ornithologist reserves... They even use music in the vineyards!

Particular care is also taken in the aging of the wines which are refined in suitable containers. Thus the concrete cellar is the obligatory passage for small-yielding fruit vintages: the inertia of the material allows the primary aromas of furits and flowers to be preserved while melting the tannins.

French oak is in the spotlight for the more sophisticated vintages. 500 liter barrels hold the red juices from old Carignan, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre vines. Always looking for new tastes and textures, winegrowers like to experiment with original containers, such as terracotta jars.
