The 2022 harvests were exceptional. The 77,000 vines were spared from the hail and experienced beautiful sunny days, accompanied by mild temperatures, allowing the harvest to be quadrupled compared to the previous year.
The Cheverny blanc 2022 from Château de Chambord is made from skin maceration. Once picked, the grapes are destemmed and pressed. The juice is placed in vats for approximately 18 hours at low temperature. After keeping it cold, the temperature is allowed to rise slowly so that the juices begin to ferment to a temperature of 15°.
Aging is carried out in stainless steel vats.
It is perhaps one of the oldest vineyards in France. Archives attest to the presence of vines in Chambord at least since the medieval period. In 1518, François I undertook the construction of Chambord. The same year, according to a royal order, he brought to Val de Loire from Beaune 80,000 vines of the grape variety reputed to be the origin of Romorantin.
It was in 2015 that Château de Chambord reconnected with its wine-growing history by replanting a plot of fourteen hectares of vines at a place called Ormetrou, a few kilometers from the historic monument, on the site of an old vineyard, in an eco-responsible agricultural approach. The first manual harvests in Chambord were carried out in September 2018.
The vineyard is planted with a north-south exposure on a predominantly sandy terroir, mixed underground with clay. It is worked in organic farming.
Chambord has a real wine estate, the grapes being harvested there then vinified in a new winery renovated in 2022. It is this vine which was notably replanted in Chambord in 2015, on the site of an old closed vineyards at a place called Ormetrou.
