Well seen dear madam, our accent will have betrayed us. So much the better, since I have the impression that you prefer - a little - the French, whereas you have a rather teasing love relationship with Quebecers. Probably because they tend to laugh - a little? - your singing accent. I admit that I have a little trouble understanding you, but no worse than the other francophones, whether they come from Quebec or Montreal. But isn't it great, this diversity of the same language, which sings a different melody depending on the country, the region where it is spoken?
In short, "we" have made a long journey to discover this beautiful country so little known in France.
Except for the history teachers who obviously know very well this dark destiny experienced by the Acadians whose ancestors had made the long journey from France to find a better life in a new world.
As there is no direct connection to New Brunswick, we embark in Paris for a flight to Halifax in Nova Scottia (Nova Scotia) before taking the road to Moncton, an important business center in the Acadian province.
After a long queue at the Budget counter (we arrived after a group of Americans), we are finally on our way. The GPS speaks to us in English - but very distinctly. So no worries about making the three hour drive that separates us from Moncton, if not our fatigue from the jet lag. So no question of exploring the streets of Moncton by night, we collapsed in our "king size" bed.
In the morning, a great breakfast buffet puts us back on our feet. Catherine, a friendly and helpful waitress, provided us with a map and brochure. We don't hang out in town, the famous Bay of Fundy and its wonders. The road follows the course of the Petitcodiac River, past pretty wooden houses with well-groomed exteriors. The ground is visibly very wet, everywhere reeds and other marsh plants flourish. Then, it is only forests of birch, spruce, fir, maple….
And let's go for a journey of 1850 km in seven days. Marvel at the rocks of Hopewell in the Bay of Fundy, observe bears in Acadieville , experience the thrill of the Acadian National Day , tread the sand in Kouchibouguac National Park, immerse yourself in the life of La Sagouine, go fishing with lobsters. Unfortunately, one of our meetings is missed: the one with the whales because of… fog. It will be a reason to come back!
