Gray clouds scroll across the sky, the air is heavy with iodized spray carried by the sometimes invigorating wind. The next day, as if by magic, the color blue is everywhere, in the sky and in the sea. Welcome to Brittany!
In the south of Finistère, where the Odet river flows into the sea, facing the magical Glénan archipelago, Bénodet is a holiday destination all year round. Certainly, its long white sand beaches are irresistible in summer. But in winter, when the ocean front is almost deserted, the landscapes of Bénodet can be discovered in peace, on foot or by bike.
The GR34 runs along the shores of the ocean, cycle routes lead to other nearby villages. Several walking routes allow you to discover Bénodet both on the sea side and on the land side. The longest, a dozen kilometres, the loop of cornices? passes by the banks of the Odet, the four beaches of the resort, always with the sea in focus. In good weather, the discovery of Le Letty and the White Sea, a veritable small inland sea, is a delight. This walk is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.
If the cove of the small mill is a shorter walk (about 3km), you never get tired of it, as the landscape changes throughout the day, with the rhythm of the tides and the birds that come to feed in the marshes. The Brent Geese hibernate there. A long footbridge crosses the marshes.
Want a little sweetness? So you have to push a little further (the best way is to go there by bike), to reach the artisanal zone of Kergaouen. This is where the manufacturing workshops of the François Garrec biscuit factory are located, whose delicious products are available exclusively for direct sale and on the company's website. A glazed corridor allows you to observe the craftsmen at work – and to see that they put their hands in the dough to produce 15 varieties of cakes and biscuits, 1900 pancakes per day, galettes, biscuits and cakes.
But what particularly attracts holidaymakers to Bénodet this season is its thalassotherapy center just opposite Trez beach. If the sea is still far too cold for swimming, the warm seawater pool is perfect. Jacuzzi, sauna, aromatherapy room and a whole range of relaxing, well-being and beauty treatments complete the offer. Modeling under sea rain, seaweed wraps, tonic jets... offer all the benefits of the sea. From the bright rest rooms, the view goes directly over the expanse of the ocean. It's raining ? No matter, we are sheltered as in a cozy cocoon.
The Phélippeau family manages four Relais Thalasso. Surrounded by scientists and therapists, they developed Sea Wellness, which represents their vision of well-being enriched by the sea. On the program: physical activity, balanced diet and mental well-being. All in contact with the sea, water full of trace elements and minerals. At each high tide, seawater is drawn off to ensure maximum remineralization. Heated to body temperature, marine active ingredients penetrate the skin to reactivate vital functions. Seawater is also associated with various treatments.
Benefits that extend to the plates in restaurants that offer seafood and fish.
Brittany during the "bad season" allows you to recharge your batteries, to take time for yourself, whatever the weather!
And if you really want to explore this region a little more, Concarneau and its "closed city" are only about twenty kilometers away...
