On the outskirts of Bavaria, where it meets Bohemia, the Arber is a tourist magnet, summer and winter. Endangered floral species such as the Hungarian gentian flourish on its slopes.
Here, humans lend a hand to nature: to ensure their survival, the proliferation of blueberry bushes must be contained !
Many hiking trails, more or less long and of varying difficulty, allow you to discover the massif. Two paths go up there in 1 hour 30 minutes (easy access) or in 2 hours (more sporty).
More comfortable, the gondola lift allows the less athletic to climb quietly to the summit.
The last meters must however be done on foot to reach the summit cross or the chapel with its "planks of the dead". On these curious wooden planks were, at the time, the dead have been laid out.
An impressive glass elevator allows people with reduced mobility to reach the hostel from the arrival of the cable cars.
At the foot of the mountain range, the “Grosser Arbersee” lake attracts tourists. With its floating islets, small waterfalls and marshes, the lake is an impressive witness to the Ice Age.
A partially landscaped course allows you to go around it and admire its wild beauty. Children dive into the world of fairy tales in the heart of the forest near the lake.
More secret, and very idyllic, the “Kleiner Arbersee” with its floating islets.
As it can only be reached on foot, it is preserved from the tourist influx. While circling the lake (9.2 km) is easy in 2.5 hours, the 2.6 km access to the lake can seem long and strenuous. Until the end of october, a small tourist train takes you there from the animal park in Lohberg.
