The Bareiss, a luxury hotel with a family and friendly atmosphere

There are few places where you feel so expected and welcome from the very first moment. At Bareiss, this feeling is immediate. You could almost believe that a smile is a requirement for employment, it's so ubiquitous.

Its five superior stars do not equate to ostentatious luxury. Here, there are no flashy gildings or displays of wealth, but a discreet, refined and timeless elegance, where everyone naturally finds their place.

In the vast hall, backpackers mingle with gourmets who have come to discover the triple-starred cuisine of Claus-Peter Lumpp, one of Europe's greatest chefs.

Those who prefer a more traditional atmosphere take their seats in the "Dorfstuben", a warm restaurant with a mountain inn decor, where regional specialties are showcased.

A third culinary experience awaits gourmets around the communal table, served in several intimate lounges that invite you to savor the moment in a convivial atmosphere.

And then there is the large room with its fireplace, where one gladly succumbs to the generous "coffee and cakes" buffet, a tradition dear to our German neighbors which also appeals to French visitors.

As if that weren't enough, a delicious snack is offered at midnight… in case you still feel a little peckish!

Just a few hours later, the tables are once again adorned with a sumptuous breakfast served until 11:30 am.

Needless to say, physical activity is highly recommended. The swimming pools, the fitness room, and especially the numerous hiking trails that start directly from the hotel's vast park contribute significantly to this.

Some lead to the Morlokhof, an old farm where you can enjoy coffee and cakes on certain afternoons, others lead to the Sattelei refuge, renowned for its snacks and regional specialties.

In the beginning there was... a young woman

The Bareiss is first and foremost a family affair. It all began with Hermine Bareiss, whose bronze bust now welcomes visitors in the lobby. When she opened the small "Kurhotel Mitteltal" in 1951 with just six rooms, she could hardly have imagined that her son Hermann would, a few decades later, transform it into one of the most renowned hotels in the world.

A young war widow, mother of two children, excellent cook and pastry chef, and accomplished hostess, Hermine Bareiss succeeded in making her small hotel a sought-after destination for holidaymakers. So much so that she quickly had to consider expanding.

Meanwhile, his son Hermann was honing his craft in France. For a young German, making a name for himself in the Parisian world was no easy feat. Yet his professionalism, charisma, and passion opened every door for him.

From this period, he retained a deep attachment to France and remained a steadfast advocate for Franco-German friendship. Every July 14th, he organizes a large and particularly moving tricolor celebration at the Bareiss, where the national anthems of both countries resonate side by side. This commitment earned him the french title of Knight of the Legion of Honour in 2007.

Hermann Bareiss knew he would one day take over the family hotel. But he would have gladly extended his travels and discoveries a bit longer. But in 1966, his mother could no longer manage the development of the establishment alone.

His return marked the beginning of a remarkable expansion. The "Kurhotel Mitteltal" became "Le Bareiss," now considered one of the finest hotels in Germany. In 2012, it was even named "Best Resort in Europe." Despite this international renown, the family spirit has remained intact.

An ideal destination for families

The Bareiss is also an address designed for stays bringing together several generations.

The youngest children have their own world with the "Villa Kunterbunt," caravan and treehouse, playground and pony farm are entirely dedicated to them.
Supervised by an attentive team, they play, craft, cook, eat and dream in complete freedom.

Teenagers, and even young adults, have their own dedicated space with a pool table, foosball, darts, a TV room, and a multimedia area. During school holidays, a comprehensive program of activities and excursions is offered, tailored to different age groups.

Meanwhile, parents and grandparents enjoy the pleasures of the vast spa.

An indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, indoor and outdoor seawater pools, a paddling pool for the little ones and, during the summer season, a magnificent natural swimming pond make up a space dedicated to relaxation.

The menu of massages and treatments is particularly extensive. The hardest part is choosing. Among the most enjoyable experiences are the massages performed with handcrafted oils from the German brand "Spa-Manufaktur." Rose to nourish the skin, lavender to promote relaxation, mountain herbs for a detoxifying effect, or Moroccan orange to revitalize the body: each oil has its own unique properties.

The Bareiss also offers exclusive treatments by Gertraud Gruber, a pioneer in holistic cosmetics.
And because well-being knows no age, massages are also available for children aged 3 to 14, as well as for men.

In the beauty center as in the entire hotel, the philosophy remains the same: to prioritize authenticity, comfort and well-being rather than sophistication or fashion trends.
